Zach Vertin spent eight years living, working, and reporting from South Sudan. He is a visiting lecturer at Princeton University and a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations. He was Chief of Staff to the U.S. Special Envoy to South Sudan, which leads policymaking on behalf of the Department of State and the White House, and he played a central role in the peace talks that ended South Sudan’s civil war. His writing and commentary have appeared in: The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, Los Angeles Times, The Economist, The Atlantic, CNN, National Public Radioand more. He lives in Washington, DC.
